1. Introduction
This Privacy & Cookie Policy explains how TRUP LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("TRUP," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, stores, discloses, and protects information in connection with Licentia and related services.
Licentia is a product operated by TRUP LLC. Licentia is not a separate legal entity, registered DBA, or separately incorporated company.

2. Scope
This Policy applies to the Services, including websites, web applications, AI-assisted tools, academic research features, document-processing tools, citation tools, study tools, statistics tools, accounts, subscriptions, credits, support, and related communications.
3. Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of information:
Account Information: Name, email address, authentication method, password hash if local login is used, account settings, locale, timezone, preferences, verification status, accepted terms timestamp, signup IP, and related account metadata.
Authentication Information: Information from login providers such as Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, local email/password authentication, or other supported authentication methods, depending on what you choose to use.
User Content: Prompts, instructions, text, files, documents, PDFs, datasets, academic materials, citations, references, notes, drafts, uploads, generated outputs, study materials, statistics inputs, document-processing inputs, and other content you provide or generate through the Services.
AI Processing Information: Prompts, source excerpts, retrieved context, instructions, AI outputs, model routing metadata, token usage, cost metadata, error logs, and technical information related to AI-powered features.
Billing and Payment Information: Plan, subscription, credit balance, invoices, payment status, transaction identifiers, payment processor metadata, billing events, refund or re-credit information, and related records. Payment card or crypto payment details may be processed by third-party payment processors rather than by TRUP directly.
Support and Communications: Messages, support tickets, email communications, attachments, feedback, abuse reports, security reports, copyright complaints, and related contact information.
Device, Log, and Usage Information: IP address, user agent, browser, device information, session data, access logs, request logs, error logs, security logs, rate-limit logs, feature usage, timestamps, and similar technical information.
Cookies and Local Storage: Session cookies, authentication cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, preference storage, security storage, and similar technologies as described below.
4. Information You Should Not Upload
You should not upload sensitive personal information, protected health information, government identifiers, financial account credentials, biometric data, children's data, confidential third-party data, or private information about others unless you have the lawful right, authority, and consent to do so.
You are responsible for ensuring that your uploaded files, datasets, academic materials, and prompts do not violate privacy, confidentiality, copyright, institutional, or legal obligations.
5. How We Use Information
We may use information to:
- provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services;
- create and manage accounts;
- authenticate users;
- process prompts, documents, files, datasets, citations, and outputs;
- provide AI-assisted features;
- provide academic research, writing, study, document, citation, and statistics tools;
- process payments, subscriptions, credits, invoices, failed-job re-credits, and chargebacks;
- provide support and respond to requests;
- secure the Services and prevent fraud, abuse, scraping, misuse, and unauthorized access;
- debug errors and monitor system performance;
- enforce our Terms and policies;
- comply with law and legal process;
- communicate service, billing, security, legal, and account-related information;
- send product-related or marketing communications where permitted by law and subject to opt-out rights where required.
6. AI Processing and Third-Party AI Providers
AI-powered features may send prompts, instructions, uploaded content, source excerpts, metadata, outputs, and related information to third-party AI infrastructure providers, model routing providers, model providers, OCR providers, and other service providers.
Licentia does not use Customer Content to train TRUP-owned public AI models. However, third-party AI providers may process information according to their own terms, privacy policies, data retention settings, logging settings, routing policies, and model provider policies.
AI providers, models, routing paths, retention settings, and availability may change over time.
7. Service Providers and Third Parties
We may disclose information to service providers and subprocessors that help us operate the Services. These may include:
- infrastructure and server providers;
- database and backup systems;
- file storage providers, including Cloudflare R2 or similar providers;
- AI infrastructure, model routing, OCR, and model providers, including OpenRouter or similar providers;
- authentication providers, including Google and Apple;
- payment processors, including Creem, Plisio, Stripe, or similar providers;
- email infrastructure providers, including Sendarix or similar providers;
- academic metadata, citation, DOI, abstract, indexing, search, and source-discovery providers such as Crossref, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, PubMed, DOAJ, arXiv, or similar providers;
- security, abuse prevention, debugging, logging, support, and operational tools.
8. Infrastructure and International Processing
Licentia currently operates its own servers, with primary infrastructure located in Frankfurt, Germany. The primary database is currently hosted in the same location, and backups may be maintained within Europe.
We may change infrastructure, hosting locations, backup locations, routing, providers, or service locations from time to time as needed to operate, secure, improve, or scale the Services.
Because Licentia is operated by a United States company and uses global service providers, information may be processed in the United States, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Türkiye, and other countries where we or our service providers operate.
10. No Sale or Advertising Sharing
Licentia does not currently sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Licentia does not currently use advertising pixels, retargeting pixels, third-party analytics, or session replay technologies.
11. Legal Bases for EEA, UK, and Swiss Users
If you are located in the EEA, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we may process personal data based on:
- contract necessity, to provide the Services you request;
- legitimate interests, such as security, fraud prevention, service improvement, support, billing integrity, and abuse prevention;
- consent, where required for optional processing;
- legal obligations, such as tax, accounting, compliance, or legal requests.
12. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain accounts, process billing, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce agreements, maintain security, and support legitimate business purposes.
Deleted information may remain in backups, archives, logs, security records, billing records, tax records, accounting records, fraud prevention systems, or disaster recovery systems for a limited period before being overwritten or deleted, unless longer retention is required or permitted for legal, tax, accounting, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, service integrity, or compliance purposes.
13. Account Deletion and Data Requests
You may request access, correction, deletion, export, or other privacy-related assistance by emailing hello@licentia.io. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Deletion requests may be subject to legal, security, billing, tax, accounting, fraud prevention, backup, dispute resolution, or operational retention requirements.
14. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
15. Children's Privacy
Licentia is not directed to children under 13, and users under 13 may not create an account or use the Services.
Users under 18 may use Licentia only with the consent and supervision of a parent, legal guardian, school, university, or authorized institution.

16. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, object to, or appeal certain processing of your personal information.

17. United States State Privacy Rights
Depending on your state of residence and whether applicable legal thresholds are met, you may have rights relating to access, deletion, correction, portability, opt-out, appeal, or non-discrimination.
Licentia does not currently sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
18. California Notice
If California privacy laws apply to Licentia and to your information, you may have specific rights regarding categories of personal information collected, sources, purposes, disclosures, deletion, correction, access, portability, opt-out, and non-discrimination.
The categories of personal information we may collect are described in this Policy, including account information, identifiers, commercial information, internet or network activity, user content, support information, and inferences or usage information.
19. Türkiye Residents
If you are located in Türkiye, Licentia may process your personal data in accordance with applicable Turkish data protection requirements to the extent they apply to TRUP. The controller/operator is TRUP LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. You may contact us at hello@licentia.io regarding privacy requests.
20. Business and Institutional Customers
If you use Licentia through a business, university, school, research institution, team, or organization, that organization may control certain information, accounts, settings, content, or access. A Data Processing Addendum may apply where required by a written agreement.
21. Copyright, Abuse, and Legal Requests
We may process information to investigate copyright complaints, abuse reports, security incidents, policy violations, payment fraud, chargebacks, legal requests, and potential violations of our Terms.
22. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy & Cookie Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date indicates the latest revision. Material changes may be notified through the Services, email, or other reasonable means. Continued use of the Services after the effective date means you accept the updated Policy.
