1. Purpose
This AI, Academic Integrity & Acceptable Use Policy explains how you may and may not use Licentia's AI-assisted academic research, writing, study, citation, document-processing, statistics, and productivity tools.
This Policy is incorporated into the Terms of Service.
2. Licentia Is an Assistant
Licentia is an assistant. Licentia is not a ghostwriter, academic advisor, lawyer, publisher, plagiarism checker, professional statistics consultant, or substitute for your own judgment, verification, institutional obligations, or professional advice.
You are solely responsible for how you use Licentia and for all consequences of relying on, submitting, publishing, or distributing any output.
3. AI Limitations
AI-generated outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, biased, fabricated, misleading, offensive, non-compliant, or unsuitable for your intended purpose.
AI may hallucinate citations, sources, quotations, statistics, facts, reasoning, summaries, legal conclusions, academic claims, or formatting.
Source-grounded answers may still be incomplete, out of context, or wrong if the uploaded or retrieved sources are incomplete, low-quality, outdated, or misunderstood.
4. User Verification Required
You must independently verify:
- all citations, references, sources, DOIs, links, and bibliographic metadata;
- all quoted material;
- all summaries and interpretations;
- all calculations and statistics;
- all OCR and document parsing results;
- all generated text;
- all claims, conclusions, and recommendations;
- all institutional, academic, legal, ethical, and publication requirements.
5. Academic Integrity
You may not use Licentia to:
- cheat;
- submit AI-generated work as your own where prohibited;
- bypass school, university, publisher, employer, or institutional rules;
- fabricate citations, sources, evidence, datasets, results, or quotations;
- misrepresent authorship or AI assistance;
- complete assignments, exams, theses, dissertations, articles, peer reviews, grant applications, or other academic work in violation of applicable rules;
- help another person commit academic misconduct;
- use Licentia as a ghostwriting or cheating service.
You are solely responsible for understanding and complying with the rules that apply to you.
6. Acceptable Academic Uses
Subject to applicable rules, Licentia may be used to support:
- brainstorming;
- outlining;
- source organization;
- note-taking;
- study assistance;
- summarization;
- citation formatting support;
- document transformation;
- grammar and clarity improvements;
- research planning;
- statistics exploration;
- study materials;
- draft review;
- productivity assistance.
You must ensure that any use is allowed by your institution, publisher, instructor, employer, or applicable authority.
7. Uploaded Content and Sources
You may upload or process only content you have the right to use. You are responsible for ensuring that uploaded files, PDFs, books, articles, datasets, research materials, institutional materials, and third-party content do not violate copyright, license terms, privacy rights, confidentiality obligations, or institutional rules.
Licentia does not verify that you have rights to upload or process content.
8. Personal and Sensitive Data
Do not upload sensitive personal information, confidential third-party data, protected health information, children's data, biometric data, government identifiers, financial credentials, private datasets, or regulated information unless you have the lawful right, authority, and consent to do so.
You are responsible for redacting or minimizing personal data before uploading content.
9. AI Provider Processing
AI-powered features may route prompts, instructions, uploaded content, source excerpts, metadata, outputs, and related information to third-party AI infrastructure providers, model routing providers, model providers, OCR providers, and other service providers.
Licentia does not use Customer Content to train TRUP-owned public AI models. Third-party providers may process data according to their own terms, privacy policies, retention settings, logging settings, and routing policies.
10. Prohibited Uses
You may not use Licentia to:
- violate any law or regulation;
- infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, or contractual rights;
- generate or distribute malware, exploits, phishing, spam, fraud, or deceptive content;
- harass, threaten, abuse, defame, or harm others;
- generate hateful, violent, exploitative, or illegal content;
- create or facilitate child sexual abuse material or sexual exploitation;
- impersonate others or misrepresent identity, authorship, qualifications, or affiliation;
- engage in doxxing or unauthorized disclosure of personal data;
- scrape, crawl, overload, disrupt, or attack the Services;
- bypass rate limits, credits, payment systems, access controls, or security features;
- reverse engineer, model extract, prompt extract, or attempt to reveal hidden system instructions;
- use automated agents or bots without authorization;
- test security without written permission;
- resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Services except as expressly allowed;
- use Licentia to build a competing product by copying features, outputs, prompts, datasets, or workflows.
11. High-Risk and Decision-Making Uses
You may not use Licentia for high-risk, legally binding, safety-critical, or fully automated decision-making purposes, including decisions relating to employment, credit, housing, insurance, healthcare, legal rights, immigration, education admissions, disciplinary outcomes, access to essential services, or other areas where errors could significantly affect rights, safety, or opportunities.
12. Legal, Medical, Financial, and Professional Advice
Licentia may generate information that appears legal, medical, financial, statistical, academic, or professional. Such output is not professional advice. You must consult qualified professionals where appropriate.
13. Statistics and Data Analysis Disclaimer
Licentia's statistics and dataset tools are for assistance and exploration. They are not a substitute for qualified statistical review. You are responsible for verifying assumptions, data quality, sample size, methodology, calculations, interpretations, and conclusions.
14. OCR, Parsing, and Document Tools Disclaimer
OCR, PDF parsing, document conversion, file extraction, citation extraction, and formatting tools may fail or produce errors. You must verify all extracted, parsed, converted, summarized, or formatted content.
15. Enforcement
We may suspend, restrict, terminate, or refuse access to the Services if we believe you violated this Policy, created legal risk, abused the Services, infringed third-party rights, engaged in payment abuse, or used the Services in a way that may harm us, other users, providers, or the public.

17. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date indicates the latest revision. Continued use of the Services after the effective date means you accept the updated Policy.
